Budget mark-up, Dominant Corruption Case

VIVAnews - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono emphasized that state officials should be wary of procurements concerning both logistics and services for budget mark-up in their institutions.

"[Logistics and services supplies] are sources of corruption and collusion. Therefore, they must be supervised. Let's fight against budget mark-up," said President Yudhoyono on Thursday, Jan 15.

During his leadership, the President claimed that he was not satisfied with the accountability of the state finance. Therefore, the President instructed that high state officials can be closely audited.

Yudhoyono said that no individual in the nation is free from any auditing, "including the Indonesian Military and Police."

The President went on to say that state officials may run businesses as long as there is no conflict of interests that may cause losses to the government.

Some time ago, Deputy Head of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) M Jasin said that most cases that KPK investigated were concerned with budget mark-up in logistics and services supplies. In addition, Jasin claimed that almost 80 percent of corruption cases in Indonesia are related with budget mark-up.
