Overseas Elections to Run Smoothly

VIVAnews - Member of the Elections Commission Andi Nurpati guarantees that Elections would run smoothly for Indonesian citizens working overseas.

"As for legal migrant workers, they must already be registered [as voters]," Nurpati said at the Elections Commission office on Tuesday, Jan 20.

Nurpati said that the Overseas Elections Committee has registered workers who have the rights to vote.

According to him, the overseas elections committee is also campaigning for the next Elections by introducing the Elections nominees and legislative candidates. Therefore, he said, migrant workers would have enough knowledge and it would give them a reason to vote in the next Elections.

Afterwards, he said, the Elections Commission will also be lobbying governments where migrant workers earn their living, so that local governments may cooperate with companies hiring Indonesian migrant workers.

It is hoped that the companies would be lenient towards the workers during the Elections. In addition, the companies would provide spaces for polling stations.

Nurpati said that as for royal states like Saudia Arabia, random polling stations are not possible. The station will only be available at Indonesia's representative office in the country.
