VIVAnews - Indonesian Military (TNI) force is the only UN contingent in Lebanon whose period of duty exceeded one year. Indonesian Military Mechanical Battalion Task Force of Garuda Contingent XXIII-B was acknowledged by the entire state contingent for their success.
Based on information that VIVAnews obtained from Indonesian Military Information Center, Badaruddin Bakri Akbar, Nov 19, one of the acknowledgements was a UN medal award session for Portuguese troops in Lebanon.
Task Force Commander Lieutenant Colonel Infantery AM Putranto was given the honorary task from Commander of Portuguese Contingent to pin UN medals to Portuguese officers deployed in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
The moment of pride occurred as the Portuguese Contingent held a ceremony of UN Medal awards at the UN Portuguese Contingent Base Camp in Al Bayyadah. During the ceremony, Task Force Commander of Garuda Contingent XXIII-B Lieutenant Colonel Inf AM Putranto was given the honor by Portuguese Contingent Commander Lt.Col Jorge Caetano to pin the UN medal to Portuguese Officers. Afterwards, the Portuguese Contingent Commander thanked Putranto.
The Garuda Contingent XXIII-B is involved in the UN peacekeeping mission in South Lebanon. The Indonesian Military is has fosterd good relationship with contingents from other countries.
As a result of this good relationship, the Garuda Contingent always receive positive response when engaging in activities that require coordination with other contingents. This makes it easier for the Garuda Contingent to carry out its duties in South Lebanon.
