At Least 1,000 Will Demonstrate at US Embassy

VIVAnews – Criticisms over Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip is still the most heated issue. On this last day of the year 2008, demonstrations rejecting Israel’s actions continue to take place across Jakarta.

Wednesday, December 31, 2008, about five groups of mass demonstration will take place, mainly related to Israel’s attacks on Palestine.

Based on information obtained by the Traffic Management Centre (TMC), the first demonstration would be held at around 7.00am, where the Committee for Solidarity Action for Munir will demonstrate at the South Jakarta District Court, proceeding to the Indonesian National Police Headquarters, then to the Attorney General’s Office, and finally at the Merdeka Palace.

The second demonstration is expected to take place from 8.00am to 11.00am. At least 1,000 Justice and Prosperous Party (PKS) members will also demonstrate regarding the Israel-Palestine issue. They will gather in front of the central bank, Bank Indonesia, and walk to the United States Embassy.

The next wave of demonstration will involve hundreds of members of Muhamadiyah University’s Students Executive Board. They will also head to the United States Embassy to deliver a speech regarding Israel’s attack on Palestine.

Then at 9.00am, a group from Coalition for United Muslims will perform a demonstration in two places, the United Nations Representative Office, followed by the United States Embassy.

The last demonstration is expected to take place at 1.00pm by members of Indonesia Development at the office of the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources.
