VIVAnews - 100 Indonesian figures went to the United Nations office. The figures, represented by Din Syamsuddin, urged the United Nations to help put an end to Israel's aggression against Palestine.
Syamsuddin was accompanied by politicians, artists, Church representatives, Parisada Hindu Dharma organization, intellectuals, youth leaders and women's activists. UN Resident Coordinator for Indonesia El-Mustofa Benlamlih welcomed them at the UN office on Wednesday, Jan 7.
Other figures such as AM Fatwa, Yuddy Chrisnandi, Budiman Sujatmiko, Mochtar Pakpahan, Mooryati Soedibyo, Priest Natan Setiabudi, United Development Party Secretary Irgan Chairul Mahfidz, and Rhoma Irama also made an appearance.
During the meeting, spokesperson Syamsuddin read five statements. First, they condemned Israel's attacks on Gaza Strip and deemed the aggression as serious violations of human rights and crimes against humanity.
Second, the incident may escalate into a global conflict, which will in turn block the efforts to create world peace.
Third, the United Nations is urged to take strict measures by immediately issuing resolutions insisting Israel to end the attacks against Palestine and sanctioning Israel. "If not, we Indonesian leaders reckon that the United Nations is merely a useless international organization," said Syamsuddin.
The fourth statement called upon the international community to keep urging the United Nations to be firm in stopping Israel's attack.
Lastly, the figures called upon the international community to support Palestine by distributing medicines and other necessary supplies.
In addition, according to Budiman Sujatmiko, the United Nations failed in representing the interests of Palestinian people. "This will be the last chance to see whether or not the United Nations is able to solve the international conflict," he said.
