28 Tons to Help Earthquake Victims

VIVAnews – Aid from the central government to the victims of the earthquake in West Papua has reached over 14 tons. Four ministers who have been sent by President Yudhoyono have directly scouted the location of the disaster.

“20 tons were carried on two flights,” said Head of the Data and Public Relations Center of the National Disaster Relief Agency, Priyadi Kardono, to VIVAnews via telephone, Monday, Jan. 5. Meanwhile, another 8 tons are still waiting at the Halim Perdanakusumah Airport.

Based on data from the National Disaster Relief Agency, the Hercules aircraft have been used in the efforts to help victims of the earthquake.

At 11.00am local time, Minister of Social Affairs Bachtiar Chamsyah, Minister of Health Siti Fadilah Supari, Minister of Public Works Joko Kirmanto, and Minister of Transportation Jusman Syafii Djamal, have surveyed the location.

The ministers were accompanied by a team from the National Disaster Relief Agency and the Governor of West Papua, Abraham Octavianus Atururi. They surveyed the disaster location from the air by using two Cassa aircrafts belonging to the Indonesian National Police and the Indonesian Air Force.

The details of the 14,003 tons of help through the second flight are as follows:

-    Aid from the President, 5.940 tons (food and clothing)
-    Aid from the Department of Public Works, 200 kilograms (portable toilets)
-    Aid from the Department of Health, 681 kilograms (medicines)
-    Aid from the Department of Social Affairs, 6.227 tons (food)
-    Aid from the National Disaster Relief Agency, 8.55 tons (19 tents)

The Minister of Social Affairs and the Minister of Health have also given monetary aid in the amounts of Rp 1 billion (US$91,682) and Rp 200 million (18,336), respectively. One Helly Super Puma and one Cassa will be available in Manokrawi for distribution of aid.
