VIVAnews - A celebration to commemorate the inauguration of the 44th US President Barack Obama was held in Public Elementary School (SDN) 01, Menteng, Central Jakarta. US Ambassador Cameron Hume attended the ceremony and perform the cutting of tumpeng (ceremonial dish of yellow rice served in a cone shape). Obama attended the elementary school in 1960s, when he was lived in Indonesia.
In his speech, Hume praised the basketball court, the spot used for the occasion. "If only he was here today. I'd like to see Barry throw the ball," Hume said on Wednesday, Jan. 21.
Obama is indeed a basketball fan. During his campaigning period, Obama spared some time playing basketball. He was a basketball player in his Hawaiian High School, Punahou School in 1977.
According to Hume, Obama still remembers Indonesia. "Obama can still speak Indonesian," said Hume. When Obama phoned Yudhoyono several months ago, he spoke Indonesian. "Obama said he is still fond of rambutan, bakso [meatballs] and nasi goreng [fried rice]," said Hume.
Hume stressed that the United States is benefited from Obama's intimacy with Indonesia. The Indonesian people have greatly supported Obama.
As for the United States, said Hume, Obama is considered 'a breath of fresh air'. "Obama comes at a time when crisis escalates, when the United States needs a leader who can think before he acts, who has sensitivity to diversity," he said.
