VIVAnews - A sarcophagus dating back thousands of years was unearthed in Keramas Village, Blahbatuh Subdistrict, Gianyar, Bali, by a farmer. This was the second time that a similar ancient artifact had been found within the last three weeks.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, Feb 3, researchers from Bali will conduct a research on the sarcophagus whose part of the structure is still buried in Subak Abang land.
"Tomorrow, the team will inspect the location as well as conduct further research," said of Head of Archaeological Agency in Bali, Wayan Suantika, on Monday, Feb 2.
He said that he cannot explain the finding in detail as of yet because the artifact is not yet fully revealed.
The discovery was first made by a construction worker named Muksin Riadi, 42, from East Lombok origin, East Nusa Tenggara, who was digging for brick production purposes.
As he was digging the soil, his hoe hit rock-like material, making a sound that he found was odd. He then reported it to the Blahbatuh Police Department.
An archaeologist of Udayana University, Wayan Ardika, explained that the artifacts prove that Bali was a place to dwell and to bury ancient human species. "The spots are scattered. Around 200 sarcophagus have been found in the areas," said Ardika.
