VIVAnews- President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said that there was good news concerning the 2008 Revised State Budget. Spending reached Rp 980 trillion (US$89.8 billion) or 96.6 percent. Meanwhile, revenues were 10 higher than the target.
“The first of January brings good news from the State Budget, because 96.6 percent were spent, Rp 980 trillion,” said the President in the press conference on Sunday, South Jakarta, Sunday, Jan. 4.
One of the reasons for the increase in revenue is the 13 percent increase in the amount received from taxation. According to Yudhoyono, this is a result of increasing public awareness of their responsibility to pay taxes.
2008 tax revenue reached Rp 658.7 trillion (US$60.4 billion), which is exceeds the target by Rp 49.4 trillion (US$4.5 billion). The achievement was a result of tax intensification supported by tax reform measures, as well as the recent increase in the price of primary commodities in the world market.
Non-tax revenue amounted to Rp 320.1 trillion (US$29.3 billion), exceeding the target set by the 2008 Revised State Budget by Rp 37.2 trillion (US$3.4 billion). The main reason for this high figure is the actual Indonesian crude oil prices and lifting, which is lower than projected in budget.
State Budget deficit also plunged sharply from 2008 Revised State Budget’s original target of Rp 4.2 trillion (US$385 million), or 0.1 percent of gross domestic product (GDP). This is much lower compared to the targeted Rp 94.5 trillion (US$8.7 billion) or 2.1 percent of GDP. The lower deficit is caused by the actual 2008 national income and grants, which reached Rp 981 trillion (US$89.9 billion) exceeding the budget by Rp 86 trillion (US$7.9 billion)
