Ballots Producer to be Announced January 17

VIVAnews – Tender for producing the election ballots has entered the bidding phase and will be closed on January 14. Then, on January 17, the winner of the Rp 1.2 trillion project will be announced.

The winner, according to Vice Head of General Elections Commission’s (KPU) Logistics Bureau, Borardi, would be the lowest 'responsive' bidder. “Responsive meaning sensible. Especially looking at the capabilities,” said Boroardi after a meeting at the KPU office, Jakarta, Monday, Jan. 5.

The meeting conveyed, among other things, technical specifications of the ballot project. Participants of the tender were given a document that among others included sanctions if they fail to perform.

The winner of the tender is expected to start working on the project, which is divided into four zones, as of January 29. Then, starting from mid-February 2009, KPU will distribute the ballots to all of Indonesia.

To anticipate emergency situations, KPU will create memorandum of understanding with the Indonesian Military (TNI) to help distribute to areas that are hard to reach by regular transportation.
