VIVAnews - Muchdi Purwoprandjono will submit a reply to the prosecutor’s answer to the defense motion that was submitted in the previous hearing.
Purwoprandjono has been arrested for his alleged involvement in the murder of human rights activist Munir. The prosecutors believe that he was the one who gave the order to Pollycarpus Budihari Priyanto to poison Munir during a flight from Singapore to Amsterdam aboard Garuda Indonesia Airlines. Priyanto has already been convicted and is currently serving 20 years.
Purwoprandjono’s legal team believes that there is a strong foreign interest to topple the name of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN). “The prosecution’s answer to our motion mentions that it was for the sake of justice for the victim, family and international community,” said Luftie Hakim, Purwoprandjono’s attorney, to VIVAnews via phone, Friday, Dec. 19.
Hakim views the use of the phrase ‘international community’ as a strong indication that there are foreign interests involved behind this case. Meanwhile, he said, this case has nothing to do with the international community. "The Bali bombing and genocide, now those are related to the international community,” said Hakim.
As to the content of the reply that the defense would submit, Hakim said that they would point out the prosecutor’s inconsistency regarding the witnesses they wish to call. According to Hakim, during the previous hearing, the prosecutor mentioned information regarding the Munir murder case was obtained from the mass media. “But why does the prosecutor call Suciwati and Hendardi to the stand, and not the mass media? This is inconsistent,” said Hakim.
The prosecutor has sought 15 years in this case against Purwoprandjono. Suciwati, wife of the late Munir, feels that it’s not enough. She compared it to the life imprisonment that was sought against Pollycarpus Budihari Priyanto during the early stages of his trial.
