UN Resolution Condemning Israel Too Soft
VIVAnews - The UN resolution condemning Israel in the wake of the artillery attack was not really what Indonesia and Arab countries hoped for. The resolution is considered too soft to end the war in Gaza Strip.
"There is no guarantee that [the resolution] would end Israel's blockade in Gaza Strip," said presidential spokesperson Dino Patti Djalal on Friday, Jan 9.
However, Djalal went on to say that the UN resolution is an advanced measure to cease conflicts in Gaza Strip. The resolution is considered to be the only hope to end the conflict.
Indonesia has earlier urged the United Nations to issue a resolution as soon as possible and hold an emergency meeting to prevent a prolonged conflict in Gaza Strip.
Earlier, the UN Security Council has officially agreed on cease fire between resistance group Hamas and Israel in Gaza Strip, issued on Thursday, Jan 8, in the United States.
Of 15 member countries of the UN Security Council joining in the polling to approve the resolution, the United States was the only abstaining country.
The polling was carried out after delegations from Arab countries and the United States, England and France set up negotiations. However, the United States, Israel's ally, and Arab countries having tight connection with Hamas should discuss in preparing the draft for the cease fire resolution.
