New Findings on Missing Indonesians

The Head of Consular Division of the Indonesian Consulate General in Melbourne, Australia, Abelian Yodha, said that the finding was reported by the Victoria State Police Department. It was not issued by the Indonesian National Police (Polri) forensic team which was sent to the fire site.

"We affirm that their duty is not only to find the two missing Indonesians," he said in an interview with VIVAnews on Wednesday, Feb. 25. The team was sent to help the Australian government's investigation.

"It's a matter of coincidence that there are two Indonesians missing in the fire in Australia," he added.

The National Police forensic team led by High Commissioner Dr. Musaddeq Ishaq officially started their investigation on Feb. 16 to aid the Australian team in identifying the bushfire victim bodies in Victoria.

At the present moment, the two bodies which are suspected as the missing Dean and Rudi are still kept in the Victoria Institute of Forensic Medicine. Until now, the Victorian police still considers Dean Lesmana and Rudi under the "missing person" status until DNA results are issued.

The car and bodies findings information is reported by the Australian police on Thursday, Feb. 26. But, the Victorian police did not explain the condition of the bodies when they recovered it. They also did not explain when the car was found.

Dean Lesmana and Rudi were reported missing in the great bushfire in Victoria, Australia. Both were reported missing by a relative, Juliana, who said that she had lost contact with her brother since Feb. 7 when the two were heading to Marysville.

The bushfire has killed 210 people, injured 500, burned down 1,000 houses, and destroyed around 365,000 hectares of field.
