Trapped Indonesian Citizens Evacuated

VIVAnews - Five Indonesian citizens who were trapped at Oberoi Trident Hotel had been evacuated to the Indonesian Consulate General in Mumbai, India, this afternoon, said spokesperson of Indonesian Department of Foreign Affairs, Teuku Faizasyah in a press conference at the Department of Foreign Affairs office, Friday, Nov 28.

"When the terrorists launched their attacks, we did not share information to the public to make sure that the handling over the five Indonesian citizens went well, and so that the families could be notified first," said Faizasyah.

The evacuated Indonesian citizens include: Ni Kadek Edi Dharmayanti, Ni Nyoman Sri Arini, I Gusti Ayu Putu Sri Rahayu, Anak Agung Komang Triastina and Ni Luh Gde Mahendrayani. They are all Balinese.

"They were trapped on the tenth floor of Oberoi Hotel. They were not supplied with food during the day. That was why they were weak. However, they were not wounded at all," said Faizasyah.

"The terrorists and the hostages were on the 19th floor. At that moment, officials from Indonesia's representatives in Mumbai were asked by Indian security troops to stay around the hotel because evacuation could take place at any time," he went to say.

The five Indonesian citizens have worked at Oberoi for 10 months. Their contracts are due in December 2008. "Today, Indonesia's representatives assure that they are physically and mentally well. Afterwards, we will discuss with them whether or not they will prolong the contracts or return to Indonesia," said Faizasyah.

As reported earlier, the five individuals are among those who were trapped due to the terrorist attacks that took place in several places simultaneously in Mumbai, India.
