Relief to be Granted to 217,000 Migrants

VIVAnews - The Minister of Manpower and Transmigration Erman Suparno will try to provide relief to 217,000 of Indonesian migrant workers working in Malaysia during his official visit on 23-27 February.

"I will meet Chief Minister of Sabah to talk about the matter," said Suparno on Sunday, Feb. 22.

Suparno explained that the relief will be granted to undocumented Indonesian migrant workers. "I guarantee that the relieved migrant workers will not be deported to Indonesia," he said.

In order to reduce the number of the undocumented migrant workers, Suparno will also guard illegal entrances along the borders.

From Malaysia, Suparno will proceed the trip to Nunukan and Simanggis, East Kalimantan. The visit to Nunukan will be carried out to review the embarkation and debarkation facilities. "Teaming up with the Governor of East Kalimantan and Regent of Nunukan, workers accommodation, health clinic and meals will be made available," said Suparno.

In addition, Suparno said the government will set up training facilities in the region aiming for migrant workers who are willing to alter profession and work in Indonesia.

In addition, a visit to Simanggis, East Kalimantan will be aimed at observing a transmigration spot in the borders. "The location proves as having improved the prosperity of the transmigrants and local inhabitants," he said.
