PLN Still Requires US$2.5 Billion More

VIVAnews - State Electricity Company (PLN) still requires US$2.5 billion to finance the first phase 10,000 MW Project. PLN has previously acquired funds in the amount of US$5.5 billion for the project.

PLN President Director Fahmi Mochtar said that the development of steam power having total capacity of 10,000 MW needs US$8 billion. The project will be situated in 10 locations across Java and Bali. Meanwhile, 25 power plants will be located outside of Java and Bali. "We are still working on getting the remaining amount needed," he said on Friday, Jan 30, in Jakarta.

He said that to obtain the required amount of money, PLN is offering proposals to several local banks, like Bank Mandiri, and also to international banks. "We have built partnership with Bank Pembangunan Daerah in several regions," he said.

However, Mochtar said that most of the funds required will most likely be borrowed from foreign banks. "It may reach 70 percent. The remaining funds will be from domestic banks," he said.

This year, a number of power plants included in the 10,000 MW Project are already in operation: Labuan, Rembang and Indramayu Steam Power Plants. For the time being, the development of Labuan Steam Power Plant has reached 90 percent. "It's been through some tests. It may start operating by March," he said.
