APBI May Revise Production Target

VIVAnews – The Indonesia Coal Mining Association (APBI) is going to revise their coal production target from a previous 230 million tons.

“If the realization of the first quarter production is on target, [we] will not revise it. On the contrary, if it doesn't reach the target, we will revise,” said the chairperson of APBI Bob Kamandanu during the Indogreen Expo Forestry in Jakarta on Tuesday, April 14.

Yet, the association has not gathered the realization of the first quarter production report. Kamandanu explained that the production can be on target, while the shipping can be very low.

Related to the coal sale price index which will be implemented by the government, Kamandanu said that the index will not be the main parameter. “The index will only become a reference,” he said.

Kamandanu stated that there is a concern that in the future the price index will be too expensive, thus the producers will have difficulties selling their coal.

He said that if the international market price is US$60 per ton, Indonesia index price will be set at US$75 per ton. It will make the consumers reluctant to buy the product. “So the index becomes an early reference, but the final price depends on the negotiation between trader and buyer,” he explained further.
