Top Sectors for Special Economic Zone

VIVAnews - The Capital Market Supervisory Agency (BKPM) has identified eight top sectors including commodities, energy and mining, that will center at the special economic zone.

Head of BKPM Muhammad Luthfi said BKPM had discussed the issue on how to increase the commodities and natural resources' added-values with related parties such as the Department of Industry, State Minister of State-owned Enterprises (SOEs) and Energy Minister.

He cited that Indonesia has been encouraged to export raw materials. In fact, extra investment and processing will improve added-values.

He went on to say that the smelting and refinery processes are required to boost the added-values of the Indonesia's commodities.

"There must be support from the infrastructure and its utilization," he said on Tuesday, April 21, at the Sahid Hotel, Jakarta.

Luthfi said the government should grant such incentive as tax holiday for foreign investors. "Countries abroad but us provide tax holiday," he said.
