Royalty Problem in Government's Hands

VIVAnews - Financial and Development Supervisory Board (BPKP) delegated a decision concerning disrupted fund of coal sales to the government through the Minister of Finance and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources.

BPKP Head Didi Widayadi said that BPKP has audited the fund and the report had been submitted to the government by 31 December 2008. "We have submitted the audit report to the government, and the contractors have been informed of it," he told reporters on Monday, Jan 5.

He said that an evidence found in the auditing showed that contractors had repaid liabilities of coal production routinely. However, most of the fund is delayed and has been directly compensated by contractor's rights, taking the form of value-added tax, whose remuneration is handled by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources. "Until now, the request is yet to be approved because there is no mechanism as to the matter," said Widayadi.

The amount of value-added tax paid by contractors between 2001 and 2007 reached Rp 7.18 trillion, or equals to fund of coal sales kept by contractors.
