Before Meeting, Kalla Requested Shoes Off

VIVAnews – Before starting a meeting to discuss the optimization of production of fertilizer in 2009, Vice President Jusuf Kalla asked participants to take off their shoes. Participants, including the Minister of Industry and the Minister of Agriculture, were asked to take off their shoes to reveal the brands.

Minister of Industry Fahmi Idris immediately took his black shoes off. He showed them to the camera. It seems that Idris did not have any brands, indicating that it was made in Indonesia. Meanwhile Minister of Agriculture Anton Apriantono simply smiled but did not remove his shoes.

President Director of Pupuk Sriwijaya, Dadang Heru Kodri, also took off his shoes. His colleague, President Director of Petrokimia Gresik, Harifin Tasrif, also showed his shoes to the meeting participants who gathered at the Vice Presidential Palace.

"This is a message to use domestic products," said Kodri in a press conference after the meeting in Jakarta, Friday, 9 January 2009.

"So that we can spend money in this country. Pay with the rupiah. No need to buy in dollars,” said Kodri.
