VIVAnews - The survey conducted by the Indonesia Research Institute (LRI) from 8 to 16 February 2009 shows that Functional Group (Golkar) Party gained the largest votes. Democratic Party was positioned at second; Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) was at third position; Justice and Prosperous Party (PKS) was ranked four; and Greater Indonesia Movement Party(Gerindra) was at fifth position.
"When asked 'If the Elections were held tomorrow, which party would you vote for?' the majority of respondents chose Golkar," said LRI President Director Johan Silalahi in Monday, Feb 23.
The following are the top10 vote-gainer parties on the survey involving 1,890 respondents in 33 provinces:
1. Golkar 20.1 percent;
2. Democratic Party 15.5 percent;
3. Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle 15.3 percent;
4. Justice and Prosperous Party 11.6 percent;
5. Greater Indonesia Movement Party 5.29 percent;
6. National Mandate Party 5.13 percent;
7. United Development Party 2.86 percent;
8. National Awakening Party 2.3 percent;
9. People's Conscious Party 1.96 percent;
10. Crescent Star Party 0.9 percent.
Silalahi stated that the Democratic Party recorded extraordinary result. As a new party, it is already capable of joining the competition amidst three experienced parties.
Silalahi also praised the Greater Indonesia Movement as a new party having excellent achievement. According to the survey, the party passed the parliamentary threshold. Justice and Prosperous Party was also praised for penetrating the big four, beating other Islamic parties.
However, Silalahi went on to say that "The most accurate survey will be that nearing the Elections day [in April]." Therefore, LRI will also release advanced polls in late March.
