VIVAnews - Air Asia is planning to replace its 12 Boeing 737 planes with Airbus A320, starting in February.
According to Air Asia President Director Dharmadi, the company will fly 17 planes consisting of 12 new A320 and five Boeing 737.
"The new planes will be directly transported from the factory in France. In addition, we will not use the old planes anymore," he said on Thursday, Jan 8.
He went on to say that the plane purchase will be an effort to improve services to the passengers. Moreover, the number of commercial flight passengers in 2008 has significantly increased by 2.4 million.
"The arrival of foreign passengers in Bandung in 2008 reached 80 thousand compared to the previous year of around 46 thousand," he said.
The new planes will be prioritized to serve international flights to Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.
"With the new planes, we are optimistic that the revenues in 2009 may exceed Rp 2 trillion (US$183,071,346). Even by using simple planes earlier in 2008, we gained Rp 1.6 trillion (US$146,365,362)," he said.
