VIVAnews - After Law No.24/2007 on Disaster Handling was issued, it is viewed that disaster handling showed some progress. Fast emergency response over the current earthquake occurred in Manokwari and Sorong, West Papua, was the evidence.
"It was excellent. The local government moved fast," said Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare Aburizal Bakrie on Thursday, Jan 8.
Aburizal considered that the local government launched fine emergency response following the damaging earthquake. As the disaster happened, he said, the first party dealing with the tremor was the regional government.
A carrier belonging to Indonesian Air Force carrying emergency response aid and fund took off to the region. The arrival of four ministers on Sunday as well as distribution of aid from the Indonesian President on Monday demonstrated that the emergency response had improved. The four ministers visiting the affected regions included Minister of Public Works, Minister of Health, Minister of Transportation and Minister of Social Affairs.
For the time being, there are around 48 tons of relief aid in Halim Perdana Kusuma Airport that will be transported to Manokwari. "In the future, it is attempted that disaster handling will be faster," said Aburizal.
