KPK Should Investigate New Order Cases
VIVAnews - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) should do more. According to chairperson of the Indonesian National Paty of Marhaenism, Sukmawati Soekarnoputri, the anti-corruption commission should investigate cases beyond the reformation era.
"The KPK should extend it's investigation not only in the reformation era, but in the New Order era," said Sukmawati when giving a welcome speech in the "Anticorruption Declaration" in KPK building, Jakarta on Wednesday, Feb. 25.
According to Sukmawati, the investigation on corruption cases in the New Order era is possible if the commission's authority is widened through its laws. "Therefore, the KPK's law needs to be revised," she said.
The Corruption Eradication Commission Law was signed in 2002. The law states that only KPK has the authority to investigate only corruption cases that occurred after the law is signed, i.e. it does not apply retroactively.
The National Collective Chairperson of the Democratic Renewal Party (PDP), Roy BB Janis, also said that a reversal verification system needs to be implemented for corruption eradication. Janis promised that if later, his parliamentary cadre from his party wins, he will fight for the system.
"If PDP gets a seat, we will fight for a law that will make reversal verification system possible to eradicate corruption," he said.
Janis' statement also got a respond from the KPK Education Director, Johan Budi SP. He said that he will be waiting for the realization of the promise on making the reversal verification system if PDP's cadre got into the parliament. "The promise is recorded in the media, we will wait," said Johan.
